Windermere Jetty Museum

The Windermere Jetty Museum is a vibrant, family-friendly, award-winning museum dedicated to the boats, the people and the rich history of Windermere. Referred to as ‘The most beautiful boatshed in Britain.’ By Jonathan Morrison of The Times, the spectacular site reflects the industry and engineering of one of England’s most famously beautiful locations; Windermere Lake in the Lake District National Park.

The museum opened in July 2019 after a £20 million redevelopment of the former Windermere Steamboat Museum. Kemmlit, the UK market leader in washroom solutions were tasked with providing the customer with an elegant, secure specification that would be durable enough for the high volume of visitors that the museum receives each year.

Kemmlit required the perfect security product to accompany their Bespoke IXOS P Lockers with real wood doors which were selected to enhance the overall look of the museum. They, therefore, approached the global leader in the design and manufacture of security storage solutions DOM-UK to specify one of their ranges of high-security locker locks.

DOM suggested using their RONIS Omega 100 coin-operated locks as they are produced under a Master Key system and have an ABS Plastic housing that provides a strong and durable solution combined with a wafer technology core and therefore makes them the perfect choice for locker changing rooms. The Omega 100s are compatible with a wide range of currencies and can be combined with a cash box accessory to enable a coin retaining system. In the event of a lost key, the barrel itself can be changed without needing to replace the entire lock.

“It is always a pleasure working with Kemmlit on projects, especially a prestigious project such as “The Windermere Jetty Museum”. Comments Industry Sales Manager Stuart Hawkins, “DOM-UK are proud of our association and collaborations with Kemmlit past and present. We very much look forward to offering our products once again for similar future projects.”

The Windermere Jetty Museum was designed by architects Carmody Groarke and has since won multiple awards, including; the RIBA North West Award 2021, RIBA North West Building of the Year Award 2021 and RIBA North West Client of the Year Award 2021.
