Maesteg Town Hall, a Grade II listed building, has closed for an ambitious £8m redevelopment—one of the largest investments in the area’s history. The project will restore the Hall’s historic grandeur while adding modern features such as a glass atrium, studio theatre, cinema space, café, mezzanine bar, heritage centre, library, and accessible lift.
For nearly 140 years, Maesteg Town Hall has been the cultural heart of the Llynfi Valley, hosting drama, music, dance, comedy, and children's events, as well as weddings, conferences, and civic functions. It is a cherished venue for local theatre groups, choirs, and operatic societies. This redevelopment will not only preserve its legacy but also expand its impact for future generations.
Awen Cultural Trust, in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council, recognised the importance of securing Maesteg Town Hall’s future. To achieve this, they enlisted the expertise of UHS, specialists in architectural ironmongery.
Given the scale of the project, an adaptive ironmongery solution was essential to meet the needs of the Hall's varied users. The priority was to secure the historic building without compromising the safety or accessibility of its visitors.
Universal Hardware Supplies Ltd. (UHS), one of Wales' leading suppliers of architectural ironmongery, was selected for their strong reputation and 25 years of experience providing top-quality architectural hardware, UPVC components, and maintenance products to both trade professionals and the public.
For the security of Maesteg Town Hall, UHS installed a DOM Sigma Plus Master Key System, one of DOM’s best-selling solutions. This system provides exceptional benefits for end users, featuring solid pin locks and lateral profile pins for maximum protection against common attack methods like drilling, bumping, and picking—making unauthorised access nearly impossible.
The installation is being completed in three phases, with each cylinder under the master key, eliminating the need for sub-suiting. Currently in Phase 1, multiple master keys and several double cylinders, all finished in Satin Nickel, have already been installed.
The DOM Sigma Plus Master Key System offers unparalleled convenience and security, enabling authorised users to access various areas with a single key, while ensuring the highest level of protection for this historically significant building.
