Our most recent work experience student, Khushi Patel, joined DOM UK from her college in Coventry. She is currently studying for a Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Information Technology. With a family connection to Suraj Parmar, the IT Manager for DOM Security Group, Khushi saw DOM UK as a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a UK company and learn how different departments work together to support our customers.
As Khushi is still exploring her career options, it was important for her to spend time with various teams across the business, primarily the Marketing and IT Departments. This experience gave her a broader view of the workplace and the potential paths ahead.
At DOM UK, we believe strongly in supporting young people as they take their first steps into the world of work. Over the past two years, we’ve welcomed several students into our internship and apprenticeship programs, many of whom have gone on to pursue careers in their chosen fields. In fact, several of our current team members first joined us through an apprenticeship, something we’re incredibly proud of.
Before Khushi returns to her studies, we asked her a few questions about her experience with us. Read on to find out more about her time at DOM UK.
What made you want to do an internship with DOM UK?
“I came for this experience at DOM UK because I want to explore the world of work, particularly in the field of IT, which I am currently studying. I am unsure what career path I wish to take next and hope this experience will assist me in deciding. Suraj Parmar, DOM Security Group IT Manager, is my brother-in-law who has liaised with my college to organise this experience.”
What is your student background?
“I went to high school in Coventry, where I enjoyed studying ‘IT’ and ‘Creative iMedia’, which consists of website development and graphic design, hence my choice to study IT at college.”
How do you like to spend your free time?
“In my spare time, I like to go shopping with friends and family, and I often play computer games.”
What would you like to do in the future?
“As mentioned above, I’m still deciding on where I wish for my career to start. However, I am confident I enjoy talking with others and hearing new perspectives. I am excited for the next chapter.”
