"Since 1 January 1991." Eugene remembers exactly the date of his first working day at DOM Nederland. "Before that, I had been working at the Firma Jansen since 1987. And when we started DOM Nederland, I was one of the first five people. In the meantime, there are maybe 50 of us."
Stamp worn out
Eugene is one of the original DOM people and he still enjoys every day of it. When you receive an order from DOM Nederland, it includes a packing slip with Eugene's stamp. He does the final inspection of all consignments that DOM sends to customers from The Hague. Eugene recently received a new stamp. "The old one had worn out. That's logical, because we send at least 200 parcels a day here," he says. "And something does go wrong sometimes. Which is only logical if you know how many different products and combinations we make. It's not a bad thing, which is why we check everything before it goes out. Because when it reaches the customer, he has to be able to rely on being able to start using it quickly.
Keeping a cool head
It's important to keep your wits about you, Eugene says. Because a rush order regularly comes along and 'all work goes out the window'. Then the rush order has to be finished off flawlessly, but at the same time the normal work has to be picked up seamlessly again. "We've mastered that very well," says Eugene. He says it's because of the combination of experience and expertise. And because the DOM people are all willing to do something for each other. "That's why I'm happy to carry on for another 10 years," says Eugene.
