Following DOM Security's acquisition of VIRO in 2023, DOM-CR and VIRO Spa are embarking on an important transition, with DOM-CR relocating from Turin to VIRO's site in Bologna. This move brings together two esteemed Italian companies under one roof, marking a new chapter for the security hardware sector.
Although DOM-CR and VIRO will remain distinct entities, this physical merger aims to foster collaboration and boost operational efficiency, particularly in light of Bologna's central location.
A key highlight of the transition has been the return of Lorenzo Tacchino, DOM Security's former Area Director, to oversee this ambitious project. Lorenzo's experience and leadership has been instrumental in guiding the relocation, ensuring a smooth process aligned with the company's long-term strategy.
Reflecting on his return, Lorenzo shared, "I was very enthusiastic to help DOM Security in this project. DOM-CR was the very first company I managed when I joined the Group in 1997 and it has always kept a special place in my heart."
This relocation represents more than just a logistical exercise; it marks an important strategic shift for DOM Security. Fabio Poggioli, DOM Security's Area Director for Southern Europe, explained, "The Group strategically wanted to create a hub in Bologna, and following the acquisition of VIRO, the conditions were created to implement the project."
With operations consolidated in Bologna, this new hub offers better connections across Italy and Europe. The shared site now also boasts a new automated warehouse ‘Modula’ lift to increase capacity, streamline the storage of cylinder components and optimise production.
Having transported machinery during the summer break and, with the workforce adapting to new processes and systems, production is now well underway.
A key challenge was ensuring the two independent companies could work in the same premises while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and IT considerations. Through teamwork and the resources of the DOM Security Group, these challenges were met and a high number of current employees were retained, providing continuity to the DOM-CR organisation.
As part of the relocation, the assembly workforce has been supported with commuting or accommodation solutions to ensure that all staff are well-equipped to adapt to the transition. Additionally, two new production staff members were hired to strengthen the team and maintain smooth operations.
A new office has been established in Turin for the back-office team, with space for sales and marketing staff. In Bologna, dedicated DOM-CR offices and meeting spaces have been set up for visiting teams.
The relocation opens up new opportunities for both companies. Lorenzo anticipates that, “Thanks to the investments we have made as well as the professional support given by the people of Viro, DOM-CR will dramatically improve its efficiency, quality rate, and level of service ... On this basis, we expect to win new significant market shares and increase our benefits." Fabio also sees the move strengthening DOM Security's presence in Italy and creating a “centre of excellence for the Group”.
Gianfranco Dondarini, VIRO CEO, shares these sentiments: “We are excited to welcome DOM CR to our VIRO facility in Bologna. Moreover, we are proud of evolving into a central hub for security and innovation. This strategic location allows everyone to tap into Bologna's rich talent pool and resources, creating a dynamic environment where new collaborations can develop. As we welcome the new team of DOM CR, we envision the VIRO facility as a cornerstone for developing cutting-edge solutions, paving the way for exciting opportunities and lasting success for both companies."
While saying goodbye to the old Turin site, the focus is firmly on the future. Through collaboration and dedication from all employees, DOM-CR and VIRO are poised to push the boundaries of security hardware, marking the beginning of an exciting new era for both companies under the DOM Security umbrella.
As the companies set out on this new journey, Lorenzo Tacchino offered words of encouragement: "DOM-CR and VIRO have established a close-knit team of professionals, who share a passion for doing the job properly. I wish them all the best and thank all for the help they provided."
Fabio Poggioli is equally appreciative: "We were all always united despite the difficulties we had to face! A big thank you to everyone involved in the project."
