As a building owner, you long to have a sense of security and being in control of the different access points in your building. You will think of several possibilities to gain control, whether having a different set of keys for each room or to have the same set of keys for each door.
Do you know that in the security field, there is a term called "door locking system"? This system enables you to gain more control of your building by controlling the access points. For example, in a master key system, you are able to make a key that can open all the doors in your building. Meanwhile, in other systems, you can customise more access points.

In the Central Locking System, an apartment key unlocks the apartment and all common or central doors, which are also unlocked by other tenants, such as the front door, courtyard door, and cellar door. However, none of these keys fits on another apartment door. Central Locking System can be found especially in apartment blocks and residence halls.
In the Master Key System, the master (parent) key is able to unlock all cylinders of the entire building. However, each cylinder has its' own different key from the master key which is used by the person who works/lives in that particular room. Master key System is often used in schools and small and medium-sized commercial properties.
Often times, a technical master key is added to the system. For example, in an apartment, the facility manager can unlock the central doors such as entrances, emergency exits, and supply rooms, but not the apartment units. The Central Master Key System is often used by large residential complexes.
In the Grand Master Key System, groups are formed from at least two master key systems. The grand master key allows one-person access to all rooms in the entire facility. At the group level, several people will receive group keys which unlock a section of the building. Each cylinder can only be locked by its' own key except for the parent/master key. Grand Master key Systems can be found in larger, hierarchically organized objects, or separated building complexes.
